About Kids Against Hunger

Welcome to the Kids Against Hunger International Headquarters new blog!

Kids Against Hunger is a nonprofit humanitarian food aid organization with the mission to significantly reduce the number of undernourished children around the corner in the United States and starving children around the world. Our fully nutritious meals are packaged by volunteers and delivered to starving families with the help of worldwide partners.

Kids Against Hunger has more than 60 food-packaging satellites across the United States and one in Canada and dedicated volunteers who package the food with love.

Richard Proudfit, a successful entrepreneur, founded Kids Against Hunger in March 1999. In 1974, Richard volunteered on a medical mission to Honduras after Hurricane Fifi had ravaged that country. Profoundly affected by the starvation he saw among the children there, he made a decision to commit his life and financial resources to solving the enormous problem of world hunger. His life’s work became clear to him – feed these starving children.

“It wasn’t long until I began to see the children – literally dying around us. One mother came to me crying, carrying her near dead child, pleading for help. That is when the Lord broke my heart and brought me to my knees and I knew that I had to come back to do something about it.”
~Richard Proudfit

Richard Proudfit enlisted the help of leading food scientists at Cargill, Pillsbury, General Mills and Archer Daniels Midland to formulate a food that would meet all the nutritional requirements of severely malnourished children for physical growth and mental development. The result was a nutrient fortified package of high-quality white rice, fortified crushed soy, dehydrated vegetable blend, and chicken-flavored vitamin & mineral powder. Add six cups of boiling water and this food can reverse the starvation process, and restore a child’s health and mental alertness at a cost of 23 cents per serving.
